ASX 200 Tests a Major Round Figure
- ASX 200 Holds Near Key Technical Zone
- NAB Eyes Breakout Ahead of Earnings
- Sigma Healthcare Extends Strong Rally
During the trading session on Wednesday, the ASX 200 opened with a gap to the upside but quickly reversed, retreating to the AU$7,900 level. This area holds technical significance, as it previously acted as a support zone and was also the site of a recent price gap just a few weeks ago. The index is now testing the 50-day Exponential Moving Average (EMA), with the AU$8,000 level looming just above as a potential resistance point.
Should the market break from current levels, it is likely to be driven by developments in the global tariff landscape, particularly as Australia’s economy remains highly sensitive to trade dynamics with China. As a key supplier of raw materials to China, Australia’s exposure to shifts in global manufacturing and construction trends remains elevated. While the ASX 200 appears to be attempting to form a solid base, volatility remains high, and sentiment is still primarily driven by geopolitical headlines and comments from world leaders.

National Australia Bank Limited (NAB)
National Australia Bank gained an impressive 3.16% during the trading session on Wednesday, bringing its year-to-date performance up to 3.13%. The stock has been steadily recovering, and traders are now eyeing the upcoming earnings call on 7 May as the next potential catalyst.
On Wednesday, NAB gapped higher and ran straight into the AU$35 level, an area that has proven to be technically significant in the past. With momentum building, NAB could become an attractive setup for breakout traders if it manages to clear that barrier convincingly.

Goodman Group (GMG)
Goodman Group gained 2.96% during the trading session on Wednesday, as the real estate giant works to recover from a 7.62% loss over the past year. While the strong sessions are encouraging, the market still has much to prove regarding sustainable upward momentum.
The AU$32 level looms above as a major resistance point, and the 50-day EMA sits in between, adding another technical hurdle for traders. Adding to the cautious sentiment, Morningstar recently warned that tariffs could negatively impact Australian real estate, an added layer of concern for GMG and similar property-focused firms.

Sigma Healthcare Limited (SIG)
Sigma Healthcare gained 4.07% during the trading session on Wednesday, continuing its impressive rally. The healthcare giant is up a staggering 134.35% over the past 12 months, making it a standout winner for investors. The stock is now approaching its recent all-time highs near the $3.30 level, and the bullish candlestick from Wednesday suggests there’s still strong buying interest.
Interestingly, this surge comes despite a recent sale of 100 million shares by a Sigma director, indicating that the market still sees plenty of momentum and potential in the stock.
